Public transportation and transit stations are integral parts of everyday life and the urban landscape. Not only do they allow people to commute from home to work, but also they hold a promise of escape and the opportunity to travel to new places. They are vital gateways connecting people, communities and cities.
However, in our quest for seamless mobility, it is essential to recognize that not all passengers share the same ease of access. Even though the EU and Danish building regulations provide a set of standards to secure equal access, the way we design transport infrastructure and stations continue to have blind spots and struggles to engage with the physical, social and psychological needs of many, despite good intentions. Thus, making those spaces not accessible, or at least not inviting, for all.
Accessible train stations transcend mere infrastructure, becoming catalysts for social change, equal opportunity, and a testament to our collective commitment to building a more diverse and inclusive future.
How can we design a more inclusive – and even caring, public transport infrastructure for everybody?
We are so excited to be part of this interactive exhibition.
