In Building Diversity we are about to bring together a new board consisting of both members and people from outside the organisation.
We are searching for perspectives who wish to be part of shaping the direction towards greater equity, inclusivity, and diversity in the built environment.
The board is elected annually by Building Diversity’s members and consists of six internal members and four external members.
The main responsibilities of the board:
- Support in setting the strategic direction, alignment with the mission and follow how the organisation responds to the mission and necessary compliance.
- Ensure that the organisation stays on mission, and support strategic decisions.
- Promote the organisation and expand their network to support fundraising and partnerships.
- Hire and evaluate key positions and provide guidance.
- Manage financial oversight, budgeting and financial reporting.
- Offer professional expertise, insights and advice to the organisation (legal, strategic, programmatic, etc.)
Who can apply
We encourage everybody to apply—no matter how long you’ve been working in, studying, or engaging with the built environment. It’s an advantage (but not a requirement) if you have:
- Experience working with or within an organisation, collective, or initiative.
- Been part of starting or managing a collaborative project or community.
- An interest in organisational development or advocacy for diversity and inclusivity.
- Our communication and meetings are designed to foster accessibility and to ensure that there are no barriers to joining the board.
Accessibility and inclusivity
Our communication and meetings are shaped to foster accessibility and ensure that there are no barriers to joining the board. The aim is to have a board where anybody can join no matter of impairments. In the submission form there is a point about describing if you have any needs and these will be secured in the board.
What you gain as a board member
- Be part of a collective of people committed to fostering diversity and inclusivity in the built environment.
- Learn from and with diverse perspectives across multiple disciplines and sectors.
- Gain insight into how strategic decisions are developed and implemented across the organisation.
- Contribute to meaningful structural and cultural change—starting from the Danish context and reaching beyond.
Expectations and commitment
- Volunteer-based role.
- Attend 4-6 annual board meetings. The meetings take place every second month (except the summer holiday) and are in person meetings with possible hybrid attendance if needed due to personal reasons.
- Regular engagement through Slack and email communication.
- Participate in decision-making and take initiative on specific leads or projects related to the responsibilities of the board.
Connection to Denmark
You do not need to live in Denmark or have extensive knowledge of the Danish context to join. However, Building Diversity is anchored in Denmark, and our work primarily focuses on structural and cultural change rooted in the Danish built environment, while extending to global perspectives and collaborations. Meetings will be hybrid to accommodate if board members, for example, for financial or personal reasons cannot attend in person.
